Another client of SST, Samaritan House, works on behalf of women, children and families who experience domestic violence. Since 1984, they have provided counseling, emergency housing, rehoming, and many other life-saving services for domestic violence victims.
In 2016 Samaritan House was experiencing a lull in fundraising, they were struggling to meet their financial goals. The unfortunate passing of their beloved Director of Development only increased their struggle. As a result, Samaritan House was left with a one-person Development team, several fundraising events to plan, and dollars to raise to meet their budget. The Executive Director was also new in her role, and although she had been with the organization for several years, she was still adjusting to her new position. With minimal experience in raising private funds from companies and individuals, Samaritan House needed immediate assistance with handling their events, development operation, direct mail, and donor cultivation.
Working alongside the Samaritan House Executive Director and Board of Directors, SST developed a revised annual plan. The plan included an events timeline, a board development plan, and a solicitation schedule. SST worked closely with Samaritan House to produce and measure progress, report those results to the board, and engage the board and volunteers in leadership peer-to-peer fundraising.
After the annual goal was met and a full-time Development Director was hired, SST was then retained to assist the organization with building the Samaritan House Foundation and its Board of Directors. SST assisted the Executive Director in identifying, recruiting, and cultivating new board members, as well as developing the foundation’s signature fundraising event, the Step into the Light Gala. As a result of the Step into the Light Gala, SST and Samaritan House were able to raise awareness of domestic violence and homelessness to more than 250 attendees and raise $750,000 that year.
