Another SST past client is the Food Bank of the Albemarle, whose mission is to fight hunger and poverty in its 15-county service area in northeast North Carolina. They are a regional clearinghouse for the collection and distribution of food and grocery items to more than 100 non-profit and faith-based organizations for their food programs, and to eligible individuals for their food needs. Each fall, the Food Bank of the Albemarle holds its annual Walk for Hunger to raise awareness of the insecurities of those within our community. In 2019, the Food Bank of the Albemarle’s Director of Development underwent major surgery. The Food Bank of the Albemarle’s annual Walk for Hunger was scheduled to occur during her leave of absence. The organization needed assistance in coordinating their fundraiser.
SST partnered with the Food Bank of the Albemarle to execute their annual walk by planning communications, renewing sponsorships, creating time tables and flowcharts of the actual walk day, and worked alongside their volunteer coordinator to make sure the right people were in the right places
Typically held at a local park in Elizabeth City, SST relocated the annual Walk to the Food Bank of the Albemarle’s actual campus. This not only cut down on costs, but also allowed the Walk attendees to tour the facility, sample the food that is distributed, and learn more about what goes into the day-to-day operations of the Food Bank. Along with a guided tour, walkers were also treated to a day of fun at the end of the walk. SST and the Food Bank of the Albemarle filled the fields outside of the Food Bank with craft stations, face painting tables, and free food that was provided by a local family-owned restaurant
The 2019 Walk for Hunger was an event that brought together the community, brought awareness of food insecurity, and raised money to go towards the fight against hunger.
