On October 30th, the Norfolk SPCA held is exclusive — yet cute and cuddly — Witches and Whiskers event to raise money to cover the costs of houses homeless animals, spay and neuter services, and special programming to help senior animals. The luncheon and silent auction held at the Norfolk Yacht & Country Club was attended by a limited number of people this year to account for social distancing.
Despite COVID restriction, the event raised a record amount in its five year history. The luncheon and silent auction raised over $50,000 for its shelters due to a strategic revamp, allowing more business and individuals to be involved.
A Creative, Strategic Revamp
The Norfolk SPCA leaned into its purpose by having a variety of animals in attendance and incorporated a presentation with striking statistics, visuals, and video that illustrated their recent successes, needs, and overall purpose of the organization to explain to donors how their generous donation would be used by the organization.
The event also included a wine raffle, an animal-created art piece for auction, and various levels of giving. Having a range of giving levels at an exclusive event allowed for more people to be engaged in the fundraising process, ultimately boosting the profits from the event. SST as a business was engaged as a Table Sponsor and helped with the design and creation of marketing materials for the auction that included basket themes, informational flyers, and more.
According to SST Staff, this was the most successful event they have attended with COVID precautions. Congratulations to the Norfolk SPCA for putting together such a successful event!
By leaning into your organization’s strengths, creatively engaging with your purpose and audience, a fundraising event with COVID limitations in no way means your goals should be limited too.
